Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is committed to delivering outstanding healthcare while protecting the environment and strengthening our communities.
From our journey to net zero by 2040 to tackling health inequalities and creating social value, we're taking action to build a greener, fairer and healthier future for everyone.
We are focused on:
- Net Zero – Reducing our environmental impact
- Social Value – Supporting people and communities
- Health & Wellbeing – Creating healthier futures for all

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PLAN
Our Environmental and Social Responsibility Plan (ESRP) sets out how we're creating a healthier, greener and fairer future for our patients, staff and communities.
At MCHFT, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We're taking a joined-up approach that combines our commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions with action to reduce health inequalities, improve wellbeing and strengthen our local communities.
Over the past year, we've continued to invest in initiatives that make a positive difference to both people and the planet. From supporting staff wellbeing and equality initiatives to creating opportunities for young people, expanding sustainable working practices and strengthening environmental governance, we're embedding social and environmental responsibility across the organisation.
Our focus areas
We are committed to delivering positive impact through five key themes:
- Social – Supporting healthier, more inclusive communities
- Jobs – Creating opportunities and developing future talent
- Growth – Strengthening our local economy and supply chains
- Environment – Reducing our environmental impact and progressing towards Net Zero
- Innovation – Embracing new ideas and ways of working to improve outcomes
Together, we're building a health service that not only delivers outstanding care today but helps create a sustainable future for generations to come.

Plan a healthier, greener journey
Whether you're travelling to work, visiting one of our sites or simply looking for a different way to get around, there may be more options available than you think.
Walking, cycling and using public transport can help reduce the environmental impact of our journeys, while active travel can also be a great way to build more movement into the day.

Bus and public transport
Leaving the car at home doesn't necessarily mean making your journey more complicated.
Local bus and rail services may provide an alternative for all or part of your commute – and public transport can be combined with walking or cycling to make your journey more active too.
Cheshire East Council provides information on local bus services, routes and public transport options to help you plan your journey.

Walking
Sometimes the simplest change is to walk a little more.
Walking all or part of your journey is free, produces no transport emissions and is an easy way to introduce more activity into your day. You could consider walking to work if you live nearby, getting off the bus a stop earlier, or walking between local destinations rather than taking the car.
If you'd like to explore more of Cheshire East on foot, there are also plenty of local walking routes to discover outside of your commute.

Could you make one journey more sustainable?
Changing the way we travel doesn't have to mean completely giving up the car.
Walking or cycling part of your journey, using the bus once or twice a week, combining cycling with the train or sharing a journey with a colleague can all help.
Small changes across our everyday journeys can add up – helping us to reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality and support our own health and wellbeing at the same time.
