Perioperative antibiotics for colorectal surgery are critical for infections.
The Colorectal surgical team are using antibiotics prior to surgery for those patients who need bowel prep (to empty there bowel prior to surgery).
If your surgeon has decided you need pre-operative antibiotics the pharmacy team will be in contact with you when your prescription is ready to collect from pharmacy.
You will be prescribed:
Neomycin 1g three times a day the day before your colorectal surgery (4pm, 6pm and 11pm)
and
Metronidazole 400mg three times a day before your colorectal surgery (4pm, 6pm and 11pm)
